Shelter animals

How do we get them?
There are many different reasons why animals end up at our shelter. The most common reasons are: the animals are stray, sometimes left behind and noticed by perceptive people who call our animal ambulance, the owner can no longer take care of their animal, a member of the family has become allergic, the owner has gotten ill, the owner has passed away, a child has been born, couples split up or move in together, the animal is spraying in the house or simply doesn’t get along with its owner anymore.

What we don’t do….
People still wrongfully claim that animals who have been in a shelter for a long time or have some other sort of discomfort are put to sleep. Nonsense, how demotivating would that be for our employees and volunteers who take care of these animals on a daily base? It does happen that animals are brought in in such a bad state that after having been examined by our vet, the decision is made to put them to sleep. In this case there is a medical indication. These decisions are never easy. Our care-takers bond quickly with the animals; especially the ones who have the odds against them. We might know rationally what is best for an animal, but within our hearts we often struggle.

What do we do
If someone brings their pet to our shelter, we will ask them as much as possible about the animal. Primarily to be able to take good care of the animal, but also to be able to find a suitable new home. We will request the medical chart of the animal with your vet. Every shelter animal that is brought in will be examined by our vet. If we think necessary, further examinations will be done. It is possible that an animal needs a life-long special diet or medication, and that his/her life expectancy is shorter than other animals. Needless to say we do not refuse any animal, not even the ones with medical issues! All animals deserve a loving new home.
Any health issue known to us will be discussed with possible new owners as having open and honest communication is best for all parties involved. We do have to note that we can never 100% guarantee that an animal is healthy and that he/she will stay healthy. This goes for humans, but also for animals.

That is why we do not sell our animals, but we search for motivated people who make a rational decision to adopt an animal from a shelter. The fee we ask when placing an animal in a new home is nothing more than a contribution in the costs made, it is never cost-covering.

Your support as a donor of National Animal Care makes it possible for us to help all these animals. We show our gratitude by taking care of all the animals in need, regardless breed or origin.

People who still believe that shelter animals are of ‘bad quality’ or at least have hidden defects or behavioural problems and for that reason would never adopt a shelter animal can also become a donor.

Mediation in shelter animals
The animals in this section are not owned by National Animal Care. These animals are still with their current owner(s) who for whatever reason are looking for a new and loving home for their pets.

As we do not think sales-websites are the appropriate place to look for new owners, we give people the opportunity to place the animal on our website. The contact information which you find is not our contact information, but that of the current owner.

Please note that forbidden breeds, animals other that dogs, cats, rabbits, rodents or birds and that commercial notifications are not permitted in this section. National Animal Care can not be held liable for incorrect information in this section. Neither is National Animal Care liable for damage…
